At Nillumbik Toastmasters Club, we have a varied and enjoyable program throughout the year, including social activities. There is no obligation to join or any charge for visitors attending our meetings. It is ‘normal’ to feel nervous.

We will help you to control any fear that you have of public speaking. We encourage you to participate, but the choice is yours. So why not take the plunge? Come along to the next meeting and join us to see how Toastmasters works and how much fun it can be!

The Toastmasters program

When you join a Toastmasters Club, you receive several guides on effective speaking, as well as the Competent Communication and Competent Leadership manuals. These manuals contain speech and leadership assignments, each with detailed explanations and goals. You can choose to complete either or both manuals.

As you progress through the manuals, at your own speed, your confidence and skills in presenting prepared speeches and/or leadership roles will develop. You will be provided with feedback from your fellow members through regular evaluations.

Other activities to develop your skills will include: providing feedback to fellow members for their own development; learning about the conduct and chairing of meetings; responding to impromptu (off-the-cuff) questions and topics; master of ceremonies or toastmaster for the evening; debating; dramatic reading; and speech contests.

Membership fees

New Members pay a once-only joining fee of $40, plus a semi-annual fee of  $85. Fees cover the supply of new manuals, a subscription to the ‘The Toastmaster’ monthly magazine, Toastmaster International Fees, venue hire and light refreshments.
